Working with businesses & agencies in Australia, the US and the UK · Based in Bacolod City, Philippines

About me

I'm a WordPress and Elementor developer who has been freelancing since 2010, building, maintaining and migrating websites for clients in Australia, the US and the UK.

Most recently I built Elementor landing pages and connected them into WooCommerce sales funnels. Before that I led web projects from design to deployment, and ran all the websites and IT assets for a US company.

I also build custom web applications with Claude Code, from booking and email platforms to monitoring dashboards and legacy app rebuilds that are now running in production. I also connect websites to the other tools a business runs on, through APIs, webhooks and automated workflows.

Why Australian teams hire me

Australian agency experience

Two years (2021–2023) as project manager and lead web developer at Broadcast Digital, an Australian agency, taking Elementor sites from design to deployment.

Your working day, not overnight

The Philippines is 2 hours behind Brisbane and 2–3 hours behind Sydney and Melbourne, so questions get answered the same day.

Also working with US and UK clients

WordPress & Elementor developer for US businesses

Most of my long-term roles have been with US companies: head web developer and systems manager at Cyberbacker (2018–2020), web developer and designer for Nine18Design (2023–2024), and web developer and funnel builder at Cherrington Media (2024–2025). I've also built sites for US clients in insurance, construction and the retirement industry. The Philippines is 12–13 hours ahead of New York, so work you send at the end of your day can be finished by your next morning.

WordPress & Elementor developer for UK businesses

I've worked with UK clients through Upwork since 2010, including the website for Environ Property Services, a London damp-proofing and property repair company. The Philippines is 7–8 hours ahead of the UK, so my afternoon overlaps your morning for calls and quick fixes.

Claude Code experience, tested in production

I use Claude Code to build complete applications, not just snippets. I set the architecture, review the code and test it against the real systems before anything ships. Three examples now in production:

Live in production

Operations platform for a US outdoor guide service

A custom dashboard the business runs on for bookings, customers and email marketing, connected to its WooCommerce store.

  • WooCommerce order webhooks, with signature verification, feed contacts, bookings and sales reports
  • Booking and claim flows use row-locked transactions, so two customers can't take the last spot
  • Self-hosted email campaigns with open and click tracking, one-click unsubscribe and bounce handling, replacing a WordPress CRM plugin
  • Automated lead-nurture sequences, an audit log and nightly verified backups
  • Next.js
  • PostgreSQL
  • WooCommerce API
  • Transactional email
Live in production

Site-health dashboard for a web agency

One screen showing the health of 32 client WordPress sites, so problems surface before the client notices.

  • Pulls site, plugin and update data from MainWP, plus performance, accessibility and SEO scores from Google PageSpeed
  • Automated screenshot comparison flags visual changes on client sites, run in batches so it can't exhaust server memory
  • Rebuilt from a static prototype into a secure app: API credentials stay server-side, with a real login and staff roles
  • Notification centre for downtime, visual changes and pending plugin updates
  • Next.js
  • SQLite
  • MainWP API
  • PageSpeed API
  • Puppeteer
Live in production

Call-quality scorecard app, rebuilt from legacy PHP

A team's call-quality audit tool, moved from an ageing PHP app to a modern, secure one with no data migration and an instant way back.

  • Runs on the same live database as the old app, so either version can serve the site and rolling back is a single switch
  • Fixed the old app's security gaps, including unprotected admin pages and unsafe database queries
  • Scorecards, emailed PDF reports and CSV exports that match the legacy output exactly
  • Rate limiting, security headers and a startup check that refuses to run with missing secrets
  • Next.js
  • Prisma
  • MariaDB
  • Legacy PHP migration

What clients say

John is an absolute pleasure to work with. He is prompt, efficient, has excellent attention to detail and his work is of the highest standard. I'm about to [hire] John immediately for another project and I can't recommend him highly enough.

Lisa · Upwork client

Pleasure to deal with. I can be quite demanding in terms of coming back with more changes and he dealt with all my requests patiently and diligently. Recommended!

Michael · Upwork client

John used his considerable skills to put together a beast of a website. It runs fast, has no bugs, it's safe and secure and the SEO started bringing in traffic before we'd even fine tuned the checkout. … Two weeks ago, this was a thought. Now it's bringing in money.

Frequently asked questions

Do you work with Australian businesses?

Yes. I spent two years as project manager and lead web developer at Broadcast Digital, an Australian agency, and I've built sites for Australian clients such as Occupational Therapy Brisbane. I also work with clients in the US and UK.

Do you work with US and UK clients?

Yes. Three of my long-term roles were with US companies (Cyberbacker, Nine18Design and Cherrington Media), and I've built sites for clients across the US and in London. Since 2010 I've also worked with US and UK clients through Upwork.

Will our working hours overlap?

For Australia, yes: I'm in the Philippines (UTC+8), 2 hours behind Brisbane and 2–3 hours behind Sydney and Melbourne. For the UK, my afternoon overlaps your morning (7–8 hours ahead). For the US, I'm 12–13 hours ahead of New York, so work can move forward while you're offline.

Have you used Claude Code on real projects?

Yes. I've built three custom web apps with Claude Code that are running in production: an operations platform with WooCommerce integration, a site-health dashboard monitoring 32 WordPress sites, and a call-quality scorecard app rebuilt from legacy PHP. I set the architecture, review the code and test it against the real systems before anything ships.

What kinds of Elementor websites have you built?

Business websites, landing pages and stores for construction, insurance, finance, healthcare, property services and online education clients. You can see examples in the sample websites above.

Can you fix a hacked WordPress site?

Yes. Malware cleanup and site migrations have been a regular part of my client work, including a long-term engagement with a US design agency. Here's what to do if your WordPress site has been hacked.

My web developer has disappeared. Can you take over my website?

Yes. I'll help you get your domain, hosting and WordPress logins back into your business's name, then fix and look after the site. Here's what to do when your web developer disappears.

Can you connect my website to other tools and automate manual work?

Yes. I've connected WooCommerce to custom dashboards through webhooks, built self-hosted email campaigns and automated follow-up sequences, pulled data from APIs such as MainWP and Google PageSpeed, and built n8n workflows, including replacing them with custom code once a business outgrew them.

Do you offer ongoing website maintenance?

Yes. Updates, fixes and performance work for WordPress and Elementor sites, including sites someone else originally built.

Can you speed up a slow Elementor website?

Yes. Speed and performance optimisation has been part of my maintenance work for years, including on Elementor landing pages and WooCommerce stores.

Can you move my website to a new host?

Yes. Site migrations are a regular part of my work. I back everything up first and move the site so your customers don't notice.

Do you only work in Elementor?

No. Elementor is my main page builder, but I also build custom web applications with Claude Code, including an operations platform and a site-monitoring dashboard that are both running in production.

How do I hire you?

Send me a message through the contact form with a short description of your project, and I'll get back to you by email.

Beyond work

My interest in web design is only exceeded by my passion for travel and photography. I love to read and watch movies, and will survive on cheeseburgers and pizza with the occasional cup of coffee.
